I need to come clean about this. The American Girls collection is pretty much responsible for my ability to read, and even though Samantha was my favorite — she was rich and lived in the city, ate petite fours and had her maid churn her ice cream  — I got the Kirsten doll because, and I quote, “I like Samantha, she has the nicest clothes and the best furniture, but she has THOSE BROWN EYES.”
